Frequently asked questions

No, if you have hired a soil / inert waste skip you cannot put other waste types in the skip apart from soil. If you do you will be charged. If you have a variety of waste types hire a mixed waste skip.

Soil and inert waste are heavy materials therefore cannot be placed in anything larger than an 8-yard skip.

When filled with soil waste they are extremely heavy, whereby the skip lorry can no longer lift the filled skip. Therefore, the skip hire companies place weight restrictions on how much weight can be in a skip which limits the size skips that can be filled with soil.

As long as the skip size is 8 yards or under, you can fill your skip with soil so that it is at a level load. This means that the soil is not over the brim of the skip or piled up high.

Waste that cannot go into a skip include:
  • Electrical equipment/appliances
  • Fluorescent tubing
  • Batteries
  • Asbestos
  • Tyres
  • Paint/Tins filled with paint
  • Medical Waste
  • Gas Cylinders
  • Solvents/Glue
  • Oil/Petrol/Diesel
If the skip is going to be placed on a public road you will require a skip hire permit. We can arrange skip hire permits. These will be applied for with your local council. A skip permit will be an additional cost.
We can offer a wait and load service for customers who would like an alternative to skip hire permits. A great service for those who do not have a driveway and do not want to pay for a permit.
Depending on the reason you have the skip will dictate where best to place it. But for the purpose of delivery, the skip should be placed in a location that is readily accessible for a skip lorry (minimum of 3 metres clearance width) and enough space for the skip itself.
