What is Green Waste?

Green waste, also known as garden waste, refers to organic waste and biological waste that comes from plants and other natural sources. Green waste can be disposed of in green waste recycling bins or can be put in a green waste skip.

What is Considered Green Waste?

Biodegradable waste that can be put in a green waste bin or green waste skip include:

  • Grass clippings

  • Hedge trimmings

  • Weeds

  • Flowers

  • Plants

  • Leaves 

What is Not Considered Green Waste?

Certain garden waste materials are not actually considered green waste and therefore cannot be disposed of in a green waste skip or bin. These waste materials include:

  • Soil

  • Turf

  • Tree Stomps

  • Roots

What Happens to Green Waste?

After green waste is collected it will be recycled. Recycling green waste is the most environmentally friendly way to dispose of green and garden waste. In most cases the organic waste will be converted into compost, used in the growing of vegetables.
