Skip Weight Limit Guide

How to Fill a Skip

If you are hiring a skip you may need to know what the weight limits are. Weight limits are based upon the skip size, the larger the skip size the higher the weight limit.

How Much Weight does a Skip Hold?

Weight restrictions for a hired skip are dependent on cubic yard skip sizes:

2-yard "Mini Skip" - maximum weight limit 2 tonnes

4-yard "Midi Skip" - maximum weight limit 4 tonnes

6-yard "Small Builders Skip" - maximum weight limit 6 tonnes

8-yard "Builders Skip" - maximum weight limit 8 tonnes

10-yard - maximum weight limit 8 tonnes

12-yard - maximum weight limit 8 tonnes

14-yard - maximum weight limit 8 tonnes

16-yard "Maxi Skip" -maximum weight limit 8 tonnes

What Happens if I Overfill the Skip?

If you overfill the skip and it is over the weight limit your skip will not be collected. This is because the skip lorry can only lift a certain weight.

How Can I Avoid Overfilling My Skip?

When filling your skip make sure you are aware of the waste materials you are putting in the skip. Waste materials like rubble and stone will be heavy and you will not be able to dispose of as much as light weight rubbish.

Are there Weight limits for Rubble and Hardcore Skips?

If you are disposing of hardcore or rubble waste the maximum size of skip you can hire is a 8-yard skip. This 8 cubic yard skip will have a maximum weight of 8 tonnes.
